Richard Lee Baker's Car Wash

.
During the Altamaha EMC open house, we dropped by to see Richard Lee Baker's Car Wash right next to the pole yard on North Third Street.  He laughed when we told him "Mr. Baker, you used to be in the middle of town, and now the town is coming to you!"

He's been a fixture of Soperton for longer than most of us can remember.  He worked with J. C. Stephens at his service station that's now part of the property of the McLeod's owners.

The above photo was made in the summer of 1980 during a rain when people huddled under the roof of the old Peterson station where the car wash was located then.  When the picture was displayed on Facebook, it received rave reviews, even described as "Americana".  The photographer has since given Mr. Baker a copy.

When you have your car or truck washed at Mr. Baker's place, you're dealing with Soperton's most experienced man in the car wash business.
