Veterans Day at Treutlen School

Treutlen Middle/High School held a special program honoring all veterans on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009, at the new gymnasium at 2:30.

Class President Casi McDonald welcomed the audience of students, teachers, administrators, veterans and families. The color guard of Donald D. Hinkley of the U. S. Navy, James Smalley and Joshua Wickstrom posted the colors.

Class Secretary Marlesha Shivers led the pledge to the flag and Jaslyn Parks and the Treutlen High School Concert Band played the National Anthem. Also during the program the band played America The Beautiful.

Class Vice-President Meghan Proctor made introductory remarks, and Class Reporter Elizabeth Foskey introduced featured speaker George Wendell Grimes II. Brother George, who wore his Navy uniform was joined by Private Robert Livingston in Army uniform to make an impressive portrayal of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and its precise ritual. Livingston is a THS graduate of the Class of 2006.

Mr. Paul Burns presented the winners of the Patriot's Pen Essay and The Voice of Democracy Essay contests.

Class Treasurer Abril Mills gave the benediction, and after a moment of silence Brittany Meeks played TAPS.

Dismissal was given by THS Counselor Nichole Shepard.

Newly elected City Councilwoman Isabella Powell spoke to veterans who lingered afterward.
