Republicans Will Control Congressional Redistricting

Since Georgia will be controlled by Republicans in the state house and governor's office,  redistricting of congressional redistricting will be in their hands.  The choices they make will affect the congressional elections of 2012.

Here are three speculative articles which contain some useful facts:

Each district will need about 695,000 people. Treutlen's current 12th District, now held by John Barrow will need about 5,000 more people than it has right now.
http://savannahnow.com/column/2010-12-26/political-notes-barrow-might-find-redisticting-process-bit-too-interesting

Dr. Charles Bullock, a political science professor at the University of Georgia, explains how the census has changed Georgia’s congressional districts.
“What I expect you’ll see is that the Republican leadership will concede the 2nd to Sanford Bishop and draw the 8th to make it safer for newly minted congressman Austin Scott,” he added.

"When it comes to Barrow's eastern 12th district, there are basically two ways for Republicans to make him more vulnerable. One is to move more of heavily Democratic Savannah into Kingston's district in the southeast; the other is to take more of heavily Democratic Augusta and move it into Broun's 10th district in the northeast.  But it won't be easy," the Post blog reported.

Today's News -------------------- Posted December 29, 2010

Phillip Jennings's company,
Repreve Renewables, will plant
10,000 acres of miscanthus in 2011.

The company is working out a supply agreement with
Range Fuels Soperton Plant, an 11 MMgy cellulosic ethanol plant down the road a piece from Repreve’s main farm.

The push to commercialize miscanthus got a boost in 2010 when Phillip Jennings, a turn grass grower and founder of Sunbelt Biofuels, attracted new investors and folded his company into Repreve Renewables.

Holtons Moving at "Big House"

Local people know the prettiest house in the county is the Peterson House, but folks just passing through have referred to it as the "Big House".
Billy and Wynoka Holton bought the property recently and gradually moving in, as Wynoka is intent in cleaning every inch inside, while the finest painters in Georgia are working on the trim outside.  The Henry Family has decades of experience, and everybody in the area knows that if you want the best job, you call the Henrys. Pictured are Gary, Larry, Terry and Jerry, but Jerry is a Maddox.
The Holtons have already been living in one of Soperton's fine historic homes, the Waller House on South Third Street, and it will be on the market when they finish moving.

The shingles look like weathered wood, but...
... turn one over and see it's really clay tile.

Jim Gillis Remembered

"Throughout Georgia’s political history, transportation money has traditionally been spent to pave highways through the state’s rural areas. A politician’s success rested upon how many road projects he could deliver for his constituents. Jim Gillis, the legendary highway commissioner, was credited with paving so much of his native Treutlen County that chickens had to go to the next county to scratch."

Cellulosic Methanol Production
Range Fuels, Inc. has produced cellulosic methanol from the initial phase of its cellulosic biofuels plant near Soperton, Georgia. Range Fuels’ two-step thermochemical process uses heat, pressure and steam to convert nonfood biomass, such as woody biomass and grasses, into a synthesis gas composed of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The syngas is then passed over a proprietary catalyst to produce mixed alcohols that are separated and processed to yield a variety of low-carbon biofuels, including cellulosic ethanol and methanol. “We are ecstatic to be producing cellulosic methanol from our Soperton Plant, and are on track to begin production of cellulosic ethanol in the third quarter of this year,” says David Aldous, Range Fuels’ President and CEO. “This milestone is a giant step in overcoming the technological and financing challenges facing the commercialization of cellulosic biofuels.” The methanol can be further processed into biodiesel. The Soperton Plant is permitted to produce 100 million gallons of ethanol and methanol each year. For more information, visit www.rangefuels.com.

CristoFouri Performance Saturday at Statesboro's Emma Kelly Theatre

ChistoFouri will be performing at the Emma Kelly Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. For tickets call the Averitt Center at 912.212.2787 or visit the Emma Kelly Box Office. Tickets are $24 for Box Seats, $22 for adults and $10 for youth ages 12 and under. On East Main Street downtown, just below the historic courthouse.

CristoFouri is comprised of four accomplished pianists, Dr. Michael Braz, Dr. Ed Barr, Jerry Gowen, and Jerry Roberson, playing holiday tunes that will entertain and captivate the audience.
According to Ed Barr this Saturday’s show will be fun, fast-moving, family-orientied, and as with every CristoFouri performance, there will be a surprise or two.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Emma Kelly Theatre.

CristoFouri derives its name from Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventor of the modern piano. Considering there are four of them, the name fit well.

Is Range Fuels Living Up To Promises?

R. Rapier
Robert Rapier tells it one more time!
"Range Fuels is starting to look like the Pets.com of the cellulosic ethanol world. They won't be alone, but they are the highest profile example of cellulosic hype colliding with cellulosic reality."

" If you recall, I was the first to point fingers at the vast disconnect between Range Fuels’ early, hyped up promises and the constantly diminishing expectations of what they would actually deliver..."
