More Info About Range Fuels

First for the nation:
Range mentioned on GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) last week.
"Colorado-based Range Fuels broke ground on the 500-million dollar Soperton plant in 2007 and expect it to produce around 100-million gallons a year by 2013."

"In the future, the company will experiment with using grass and sugarcane stalks for making bio-fuel."

Range Fuels has discussed publicly its ethanol plans for several years now, but it only recently made clear that it would be churning out methanol first.

Quotes from CEO David Aldous:

Phase 1 of the plant has an annual capacity of “less than 10 million gallons,” said company CEO David Aldous in an email.
The company has set a goal of expanding its capacity of the same plant to 60 million gallons per year, with construction set to start next summer.
Aldous declined to disclose the cost of building the plant.
The company is selling the methanol to a biodiesel producer, said Aldous, who declined to disclose the producer’s name.
"Robert Rapier emailed us to clarify that his criticism of Range was not about their decision to add methanol to the mix, per se, but rather he says what the company is delivering is at a far greater taxpayer cost and at a much later date than what they initially hyped." - cleantech

The Crow Mart Report

Back in the Early summer a bird visited Crow Mart.

You were wondering where Crow bought his tools.
He gets them from the downtown tool peddler.
The crew went out of town to inspect this water hole for fish.
The inspection tour was so exhausting they had to stop and eat.
Benton Lee's!

Let's not leave the bird hanging.
It escaped three hours later.

Is Range Fuels Floundering?

From online articles it appears that Range Fuels is making progress, but nothing near what was promised at the company's beginning.  Sr. VP Bill Schafer comments:
http://www.ethanolproducer.com/article.jsp?article_id=6933

Comments from CEO David Aldous:

Since Range Fuels will experiment with miscanthus and switchgrass, there is some justification for pine producers to be alarmed. Consolation prize: Pine oil production?

More about Range Fuels

"The new plant can only yield less than 10 million gallons of ethanol and methanol per year for now...  Range Fuels intends to increase the annual production capacity to 60 million by next year."

Technical article:

Range Fuels officer and founder Bill Schafer is now with PDX:
Management appointments

PDX is also pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Schafer and Cary Veith as joint General Managers of PDX`s bio-fuels business. This joint appointment reflects the breadth and scale of the opportunities available to PDX both for Generation One (corn-based) and Generation Two (cellulosic) bio-fuels.

Bill Schafer brings more than 30 years of energy industry experience including his most recent position as a founder and officer of Range Fuels, Inc., a leading cellulosic ethanol technology company that recently started commercial operations of its Soperton Project, the first commercial cellulosic biorefinery constructed in the USA, near Soperton, Georgia.

Marlee Is Beating the Heck out of Ricks

Soperton/Treutlen County has two active blogs. One carries news, the other carries olds.

Marlee's blog is TREUTLEN E-NEWS. Ricks's blog is Bill Ricks of Soperton.

Since the first of June, Google has enabled bloggers to get statistics. Here are a few:

Marlee has 450 subscribers - Ricks has 140 subscribers.

Other than the United States, the Netherlands are high on Ricks and Germany is high on Marlee.

Ricks: It's Google 793 to Facebook 361. Marlee: It's Google 666 to Facebook 636 (neck and neck).

Marlee refers to Ricks and Ricks refers to Marlee, meaning that some people read one and then click the link to the other blog.

"Worst Critic" Responds to Range Fuels Story

Robert Rapier, dubbed on the internet as "Range Fuels Worst Critic" responded quickly to the company's announcement of methanol production:

"Let me first extend my congratulations to Range, and let’s hope that the start-up proceeds smoothly. Generally when trying to start up something for which there are not a lot of existing facilities, the learning curve can be bumpy because you have to figure it out as you go along. So do not be surprised to see that they are up and down a lot as they work out the kinks (not that those sorts of things make the news)."

More Links to Range Fuels Success

Methanol with an "M"

Rumors on the streets of Soperton during the past couple of weeks have claimed that the Range Fuels plant has produced its first Ethanol.  The company's news release yesterday (August 17) doesn't go that far. The product mentioned is Methanol.  Some technical definitions are that Ethanol is a fuel, but Methanol is a chemical.

She Set the New Standard for "Blonde"

Lisa Edwards is an attorney who has been practicing law in Macon since 1991.

She hails from Soperton GA where she was a cheerleader, attended the Governor’s Honor’s Program in English/Communications, and graduated from Treutlen High School as valedictorian and STAR student. Her mother is a retired public school teacher and instilled a love of learning and reading in her.

After high school, she attended Wesleyan College, the oldest college chartered to grant degrees to women, on a scholarship. While there, she served as the editor of Wesleyan Creative Arts Magazine, Student Ambassador, peer tutor, and alumnae office assistant. She has lived in Macon ever since. Lisa graduated cum laude with a degree in English/Journalism in 1987. After working at The Macon Telegraph she attended Mercer University School of Law in Macon on a partial scholarship where she was the director of the Moot Court Board.

Lisa interned with Adams, Hemingway, Wilson, Baxter & Stone and Martin, Snow, Grant & Napier. She obtained her juris doctor degree in 1991 and worked at Martin Snow for 18 years, primarily handling insurance defense litigation such as workers’ compensation, motor vehicle accident, and premises liability claims. Working there gave Lisa the foundation and support she needed to learn her skills as a trial attorney and make a name for herself in the legal community.

In January 2010 Lisa took a leap of faith and opened a new law firm with one of her former partners, David Bullard. Bullard is a 1999 graduate of Mercer Law School and a former Marine. The new firm, known as Edwards & Bullard, LLP, is located at 3370 Vineville Ave., Suite 102 at The Commons Building.

Lisa and her partner have switched sides and now represent those who have been injured by the negligence of others, helping them get the best results possible in personal injury claims. Having worked for insurance companies for a combined 29 years she learned how to maximize recoveries for injured victims. According to Lisa, the decision to leave the security of her former firm where her partners felt like family was a hard one, but it was the right choice at this point in her life and career. “All change is difficult, but part of the reward is in knowing you had the guts to do it. My success from here on out is of my own making.”

Lisa feels good knowing she is helping those who otherwise are at a loss when trying to deal with large companies. Having lived in a variety of places as an Air Force brat and then growing up in Soperton, her small town upbringing has served her well in being able to relate to her clients and their life experiences and needs. Being a small business owner is exciting and scary at the same time, but very fulfilling.” She and Bullard are also trained mediators who are registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution so they can help attorneys and individuals resolve cases short of going to trial. Lisa is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Macon Bar Association, Georgia Association of Trial Lawyers, and vice president of the Middle Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.

Lisa has two children, a 12 year-old son and a 10 year-old daughter who are the lights of her life. Lisa is a member of Vineville United Methodist Church. She also supports various local charities including the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Alzheimer’s Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association, Vineville United Methodist Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Macon Rescue Mission, Loaves & Fishes and Vine-Ingle Little League.

Watch for Rattlesnakes!

It brought back old times for Bill Ricks, when somebody brought him a rattlesnake to photograph. The last time he remembers taking such a picture in Treutlen County was in 1998 before he was asked to look after the Wheeler County Eagle.

This is a reminder to be careful around the brush and bushes and dark corners, especially this time of the year.

The timber rattler was harvested by Mr. Miller (right) accompanied by Coach Mills. You recognize the location, and Ricks hasn't moved and is ready to photograph your snakes, big deer, fish, and strange critters of all denominations.

SIGNS THIS WEEK

Tribunal Rules; BOE Must Make the Final Decision

The three men who heard and saw the evidence and made their judgements.

Two experienced teachers fought to save their jobs after the Treutlen County Board of Education failed to renew their contracts. Each had a separate hearing on August 4, and were represented by two different attorneys. Three professional educators sat at both hearings and were given five working days to study and make their decisions.  Their rulings were concluded today, August 11.

The tribunals were held at the Treutlen Elementary School media center.  It is our understanding that the Board of Education will make the final decision as to whether or not to abide with the conclusions of the tribunals.
